One Of Those Days
Posted by MaxPen on June 29, 2006
Well, day 2 wasn’t much better then day one. At least I got in more hands today. I played just over 1,200 hands and made a whopping $30.80. It was a pretty harsh day to be honest. I was probably stacked a good 6 or 7 times. Each time, I was way out ahead and got sucked out on, or 3 times I flopped top pair with a nut flush draw, and missed each time.
Here is a good example. AA, KK, AKo, AKs, and AQs were all losers today, and all lost over $100 for the session. Ouch. A couple cards here, a couple there, and we are talking about a great day. Oh well, those days happen and I am pretty good about dealing with them to be honest. I fully expect many more days like today during this quest. I should be happy I was still able to come out ahead I guess.
Oh yeah, I earned $45 in bonus money today too. So I guess my daily total is $75.80. Not great, but it is positive so that is in the right direction. I am disapointed to be honest. I was hoping for a big day right out of the gate so I would have a little cushion when I run into my losing days.
Goal – $10k
Today – $75.80
Total - $151.85

Good to see your posting hands. It’s helping me to see how the more successful guys play this level.
Hand #1 – I actually fold this one preflop. I know I’m in position but I hold a hand that’s easily dominated and that’s a pretty big reraise to call. After that you are probably right with the weak flop bet and check of the turn. Maybe this is a weakness in my game by not calling this when I’m in position.
Hand #2 – Definately a bad play on his part OOP. I’m curious as to why the pot sized bet rather than a 3/4 bet like most of your continuation bets? I assume it’s because of the flush draw. Either way I think the end result is the same.
Hand #3 – Set over sets are just impossible to read IMO. I never put this guy on KK. I actually thought AQ. I probably would of played it a little slower because of the straight and flush draws but maybe that is the wrong thing to do. Was you worried about the AQ or just felt you had enough outs either way?
Hand #4 – You made my move with the TPTK. So where do you make the fold in hindsight? Flop to the reraise? Turn?
Anyways, keep these coming and good luck. I definately need to post more of these myself.

1) Most of the time, I do fold pre flop in this spot. Villian had come over the top quite a bit and I just figured it was time to make a stand. I am OK with my call pre flop, floating him on the flop was just a donkey move by me and I have no clue why I did it. Probably because I thought he was on a bluff.
2) I wasn’t that concerned about the flush to be honest. Such big calls pre flop, I had both on pocket pairs, so the flush didnt really concern me. Sometimes I just mix things up and bet pot on the flop, even if I miss the flop. Simply to change things up.
3) Even with a scary flop, I am getting it all in here unless a Q or A hits the turn. I actually had him on AK and figured he would fold to the reraise.
4) I probably should have folded on the turn.
I am not sure how successful I actually am. June has been a horrid month for me. I lost 3 buy ins in my first 50 hands this morning and am still stuck about $200.
